I can’t believe I’m already in my third trimester with my fourth and final baby. What a ride it’s been so far! A rollercoaster of emotions, health care changes, and life changes.
March 6, 2020; the day I found out I was pregnant with our amazing rainbow baby.
March 11, 2020; Covid-19 was officially a pandemic in the US.
March 24, 2020; we found out school was going virtual.
April 2020; Nick got a new job.
And that was only the first 8 weeks of my pregnancy. I was so nauseous, feeling anxiety about being pregnant after a miscarriage, and to top it off, being pregnant during a pandemic.
Nick’s job change brought on a variety of changes for our family including him working in our hometown (so much closer) and a change in insurance carriers (mid-pregnancy).
I was actually very excited to switch insurance providers as I knew we would be switching back to SSM Health. It felt like we were going home again. We had SSM Health in the past and I loved it! The kids could return to their pediatrician, who I absolutely adore, and I could return to my favorite OB. Upon our expected return I learned that my OB had since moved and was no longer practicing with SSM Health Dean Medical Group. I was completely saddened as I really loved him. Turns out, I would be on the search for a new OB provider mid-pregnancy.
I searched the SSM Health website and made a list of providers I was interested in. When I contacted each provider, they were happy to share information about themselves and answer all of my questions. I was very impressed with the pool of OBs and midwives at SSM Health Dean Medical Group. Just before our insurance switch we decided to have our 20 week ultrasound.
After our ultrasounds, the doctor we were working with called over to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – Madison and the staff in the maternal fetal medicine department were more than happy to help us make follow-up appointments and connect with the appropriate providers. Truly it felt like we were home! We felt like people, not just numbers.
Upon meeting my OB, I knew I had made the correct choice. She has been very attentive answering all of my questions and going above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and reassured throughout the end of my pregnancy. At my last appointment, I asked what position the baby was in, since baby had been breech at the previous appointment. My OB was unable to manually feel the baby’s position, so she just rolled the portable ultrasound machine in to take a look. She definitely made me feel like my concerns were important and did everything in her power to help ease them. I am truly appreciative.
At this point, 30 weeks along, we are just waiting and preparing for the baby’s arrival. I am excited for our next scheduled ultrasound in a few weeks. It’s always fun to see the little one who is kicking away inside my belly. As my due date draws nearer, I look forward to the planning and preparing for delivery and beyond. I delivered both girls at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – Madison and I loved their low intervention birthing options. The birthing rooms are truly like a suite. Very comfortable, roomy and filled with every resource you could think of! Best of all, after delivery, we are moved to a fresh clean hotel-like room to enjoy our precious new bundle of joy!
Creating and growing a baby is magical. Thank you SSM Health Dean Medical Group for valuing and honoring the magical moments of childbirth with such high regard.
I know that we are in good hands with our team at SSM Health.

I love it when providers take the time to listen and go above and beyond, even though I know they’re so busy. It sounds like you hit jackpot at SSM Health!

I just had to switch doctors too and although I have only met my SSM Health doctor once I was really impressed by his attentiveness. I didn’t feel rushed and all my questions we clearly answered.

Nothing is better than having a great team that makes you feel so comfortable. Childbirth no mater how many can feel overwhelming and it’s so nice when you are “taken care of” since as a mom we are usually the ones taking care of everyone else.
