Hello Germany~ Here We Come!
Germany is such a beautiful historic country. I love the beauty and stories that go along with many of the sites. Everywhere you look is a little piece of history. We’ve been soaking it all up.
One of my favorite places to visit is Die Alt Stadt (The Old City). It’s the old section of Ulm, and it is absolutely beautiful. The Danube River runs through Ulm and it has tons of little shoot offs that flow through the city which are surrounded by shops, restaurants and houses. It’s so romantic!
Nick and I love strolling through the streets soaking up all the history and beauty.
Not only are the cobblestone streets lined with historic, beautiful architecture, but downtown Ulm is also home to the worlds largest building (Cathedral), The Ulmer Munster. It is an absolute stunning building!
As far back as I can remember, my brother and I would climb the Ulmer Munster ever summer we visited. This year, was Boston and Elliana’s first chance to try. I wasn’t sure they’d actually get very far, but surprisingly, they made it up to the first level! I wasn’t able to go with, Grace and I stayed below in the market with my Opa. But Nick said they were so brave! Of course my very cautious little man was nervous at first and stayed away from the edge, but he did it! I am so proud. And Elliana… that girl has no fear. I am pretty sure she would have climbed to the third level… the top of the highest steeple. She’s one tough cookie!
Looking down at the market below.
The inside of the Munster does not disappoint ๐ฅฐ. It is truly the most beautiful representation of God’s house that I have ever been in. The main sanctuary is full of beauty from the stone architecture to the intricate stained glass windows and all of the displayed art. When your three year old even comments on the beauty of architecture, you know it is something special!
While the big kids scaled up the church’s steeple (ok maybe not scaled, but walked up the steps), Opa, Grace and I hit up the market below.
We picked up some fruits and veggies and then sat down at a cafe for a cappuccino.
I’ll have to say. Watching my kids bond with their great grandparents is absolutely beautiful. Even though I am surrounded by all of the German beauty, there is nothing more beautiful than witnessing the love and bond between my grandparents and my children. It has taken almost a week, but they are all finally feeling comfortable with each other. I love to hear their little conversations, see all the tickles and giggles, and watch how they bond during daily activities!
Grace was loving our little cafe experience. How could mom say no as she a Opa were bonding over a cookie and little sips of the foam from his cappuccino. Her smiles and giggles were priceless and he pride in his eyes was everything I could have hoped for. My heart truly is full! ๐
Signing off for now!!!
