Now that summer is in full force, I can feel the heat. Not only literally, but also the heat of being on the go 24/7. Summer = vacation + friends + extra activities. All good stuff, but sometimes it feels like a little too much of the good stuff.
Summer is my favorite time of year. I love the warmth, I love that school is out so kids are everywhere and all my friends are always up for coffee and a play date.
Although I love to be on the go and meeting up with friends, the days we spend at home just playing, just being each other’s company feel so good. I usually say, to survive being a stay at home Mom, you have to get out of the house at least once a day. Well, lately we seem to be on the go a lot and I’m learning to cherish the quiet moments at home. And to take a moment to just breathe.
Just this morning, I sat outside with Grace watching Boston and Elliana play on their play-set. Their giggles were contagious. They were having so much fun, just being home.
Where does this urge to stay home come from? Is it that Boston and Elliana are finally starting to play well together. Today they even talked about being best friends. 💜 Melts my heart. Or maybe it’s that I can’t take another car ride with a crying baby and toddler. Wherever it comes from, I’m enjoying this season; the season of playing together, enjoying one another, and just taking the day as it comes.
I saw a post a few weeks ago that said something like; you have 18 summers with your kids, does that make you want to do anything differently..?? My gut response was no. But, as I reflect further on the idea, I think maybe yes. At first, I thought it implied doing more with your kids, now after reflecting a bit, I think I would and will do things differently. I’d like to do less. Less stuff, less running, less planning which actually will equate to more. More family time, more exploring our own yard and neighborhood, more imaginative play, more just breathing.
As I think about and plan for the rest of the summer, I plan to plan less and do more!
